Portsmouth Herald: Dairy drought relief program goes to Legislature

In a move that I hope signals the tone of the coming session in Concord, a bipartisan committee of legislators from both House and Senate voted overwhelmingly to help New Hampshire’s dairy farmers in the face of a drought that struck all ten NH counties and historically low milk prices. When farms go out of business, they don’t come back – the property is subdivided and converted to other uses, making it very difficult for our agricultural sector to bounce back after hard times. Work like this will give the Downes family (pictured below) a better chance of securing a future for young Jacob in New Hampshire.
